Getting to Know You...Getting to know and to like you

Thor and Lori Duffin

Thor and I met in Cambridge Mass. He was serving a mission in Boston, working in the mission office located in Cambridge, and attending the Harvard student branch. Myself and three high school friends all had missionaries in the field and decided to go back east and work for a summer during the Bi-Centennial (1976). We sublet an apartment from a couple attending Harvard while they were away on a summer internship. We met and saw each other periodically through the summer. After the summer we came back home (Salt Lake) and Thor and I started writing. We wrote each other weekly from September until February when he came home (Provo). We hooked up and were inseparable after that. Engaged two weeks after his getting home, and married two and a half months later. So basically, most of our courtship was letters. We've been married 32 years and have lived in Provo, Burbank Ca, Salt Lake, Aurora, Colorado, Reston Virginia, Woodinville Washington, and El Dorado Hills.

We have five children and 5 1/2 grandchildren. Heather the oldest is married and lives here in town with her son Noah who is 7 and has a step daughter Emme who is 3. Kari lives in Laie, Hawaii with her husband Tame and they have three kids Tevita 4 1/2, Malia 2 1/2 and Shalye almost 1. Sharon is single and lives in Honolulu and works for Sheraton Hotels. David and his wife Sara live in Provo and he's attending BYU and expecting their first baby in July. Wendy is single and lives in Huntington Beach recently thinking about nursing school and taking some classes.

Thor has always been in high tech and sales and currently is working a contract with Intel. He loves writing - both music and books and hopes someday some of his hobbies can replace his need to work full time in high tech.

I am a seamstress and have a decorative sewing business that I work out of my house. We both love to travel and have been to Europe, China, Australia, New Zealand, and are looking forward to a trip to Italy and Greece in May. We recently got a new puppy Max (a yorkie) who has brought some life back into our empty nest.
