Relief Society Presidency Message
by Carrie Newby
"Establish a house, even a house of prayer,a house of fasting,a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God." D&C 88:119In D&C 88 we learn that by making our homes a haven against the storms and trials of life we can become closer to our Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ. I love this scripture! I think it a foundation, to which we can truly build our homes and our lives. If we strive to establish our homes with prayer, fasting, faith, learning, and order our homes will be filled with the Spirit of the Lord!
Julie B. Beck,Relief Society general president said:" As a disciple of Jesus Christ, every woman in this Church is given the responsibility for upholding, nurturing, and protecting families. Women have distinct assignments given to them from before the foundation of the world. And as a covenant-keeping Latter-day Saint woman, you know that raising your voice in defense of the doctrine of the family is critical to the strength of the families the world over"
In March, through our visiting teaching message we were counseled to :"Uphold,Nourish, and Protect The Family", I know that if we follow that counsel our lives will be blessed far beyond this earth life! May we continue always to,"Establish a house of God"

Search the Scriptures Diligently
President Howard W. Hunter said, "I commend to you the revelations of God as the standard by which we must live our lives and by which we must measure every decision and every deed. Accordingly, when you have worries and challenges, face them by turning to the scriptures and the prophets."President Ezra Taft Benson said, "Success in righteousness, the power to avoid deception and resist temptation, guidance in our daily lives, healing of the soul- these are but a few of the promises the Lord has given to those who will come to His word."

Lori Duffin - Thor and I met in Cambridge Mass. He was serving a mission in Boston, working in the mission office located in Cambridge, and attending the Harvard student branch. Myself and three high school friends all had missionaries in the field and decided to go back east and work for a summer during the Bi-Centennial (1976). We sublet an apartment from a couple attending Harvard while they were away on a summer internship. We met and saw each other periodically through the summer. After the summer we came back home (Salt Lake) and Thor and I started writing. We wrote each other weekly from September until February when he came home (Provo). We hooked up and were inseparable after that. Engaged two weeks after his getting home, and married two and a half months later. So basically, most of our courtship was letters. We've been married 32 years and have lived in Provo, Burbank Ca, Salt Lake, Aurora, Colorado, Reston Virginia, Woodinville Washington, and El Dorado Hills.
We have five children and 5 1/2 grandchildren. Heather the oldest is married and lives here in town with her son Noah who is 7 and has a step daughter Emme who is 3. Kari lives in Laie, Hawaii with her husband Tame and they have three kids Tevita 4 1/2, Malia 2 1/2 and Shalye almost 1. Sharon is single and lives in Honolulu and works for Sheraton Hotels. David and his wife Sara live in Provo and he's attending BYU and expecting their first baby in July. Wendy is single and lives in Huntington Beach recently thinking about nursing school and taking some classes.
Thor has always been in high tech and sales and currently is working a contract with Intel. He loves writing - both music and books and hopes someday some of his hobbies can replace his need to work full time in high tech.
I am a seamstress and have a decorative sewing business that I work out of my house. We both love to travel and have been to Europe, China, Australia, New Zealand, and are looking forward to a trip to Italy and Greece in May. We recently got a new puppy Max (a yorkie) who has brought some life back into our empty nest.
“Keep your promises..maintain your integrity. Abide by your covenants. Give the Lord, this year and every year, your high fidelity and fullest expression of faith.” - President Spencer W. Kimball
"Women of God can never be like women of the world. The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender. There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind. There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined." -Margaret D. Nadauld, "The Joy of Womanhood," Ensign, Nov. 2000, 14-16.
“The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not ‘Eureka!’ (I found it), but ‘That’s funny...’” - Issac Asimov
“One’s character isn’t defined by what one goes through, rather how one goes through it.”
“The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won’t wait while you do the work.” - Patricia Clafford
“Not knowing when the dawn will come, I open every door.” - Emily Dickinson

“It is a time-honored adage that love begets love. Let us pour forth love-forth our kindness unto all mankind, and the Lord will reward us with everlasting increase. Nothing is so much calculated to lead people from sin as to take them by the hand, and watch over them with tenderness.” - President Joseph Smith Jr.“Keep your promises..maintain your integrity.
