Young Men

A Year of Fun, Service and Accomplishment

The end of 2008 has been a time of fun, service, and accomplishments for the Young Men of Silva Valley Ward. We've had some fun with the youth at target practice, capture the flag, basketball with the Bishop, Sky High dodge ball and many other exciting things.

Service is a high priority for our program - the youth had the privilege of serving a few members of our ward, and community during a Stake-wide service project last month. Their accomplishments were showcased by Chase Pearson and Brady Garrett, who finished the requirements for the highest rank in Scouting: Eagle. We're proud to add their names to the few that have reached this rank in our young ward.

Going forward, we are working on Duty to God progress so that each Young Man can finish his requirements and be awarded his Duty to God certificate as he turns 14, 16 and 18 years old, and moves on to the next quorum. Each family can expect to receive a brief visit from the Young Men leadership to discuss this program. The award itself is not as important as the journey that transforms these boys into great men, preparing for missions, working hard on their education, and excelling in extracurricular activities.

Give our Young Men a pat on the back and a word of encouragement the next time you pass one by. Have a Merry Christmas.
